Updates

We took Julie and Attie to the vet last week. We found out our kitty is definitely an Atticus!

We also found out Julie is doing pretty darn well for a 13-year-old dog. I'm glad. I want her around for a long time.

Attie had flea poop on her (the vet uses a special comb) so we gave her a bath in blue Dawn when we got home. HIM! I mean HIM! I have to get used to this. Anyway, Dawn is the safest thing to use and it smothers any fleas. Attie did NOT like this.

I kept him warm in a towel and then a blanket. He was so sleepy from getting shots that I was almost worried about him, but he was back to his crazy old self later in the day.

The next event is that Mike and I went to Atlantic City with John and Noreen this past weekend. John is at Diamond level, which means he gets all kinds of nice perks. We got to share in them, of course. It was John's birthday on the 18th. He and I share one week each year where we are exactly the same age.

There is a new, huge Ferris Wheel on the Boardwalk:

I wish the billboard wasn't in the way. Mike and I were actually able to take a walk one day (in January) when it was somewhat mild out. I actually logged 15,000 steps on my Fitbit one of the days we were there. AC is the best for walking.

Thursday is my birthday. I made my pre-op appointment with Dr. B that day, like an idiot. And I was looking right at the calendar when I did it. I'm getting my hair cut in the afternoon. Then the kids are joining Mike and me to have dinner at the Chinese Buffet I like.

Michael is making lasagna for me on Saturday. I will blog about that if I actually remember. Worry about this eye business is sort of messing with my brain.

Cozy Mornings

I have a lot on my mind that makes me anxious, no matter how hard I try to think 'what will be, will be.' Can't help it--it runs in the family. But most mornings, I relax with a cup of coffee, and a breakfast biscuit, and catch up on my reading/daily crossword. In bed! My animals seem to enjoy the quietude, too. (Is quietude a word?)

Sooooo comfy!

Both Julie and Attie go to the vet today. I will finally learn if Attie is a boy or a girl.

Winter Days

We had a nice lunch with John and Noreen today at Chili's. I was able to wear a Fall coat because it is in the 40s, much better than the ridiculous cold we've had all up and down the East Coast. It was even cold in Florida!

Woke up to 1 degree Fahrenheit on Sunday morning!

We feed the birds and squirrels daily. Once in a while, there's an extra treat, like an apple I didn't like very  much:

Kitten Smitten

Atticus!

It took a while, but Julie gradually got used to her new 'sibling,' and no longer feels the need to bark when she's around. Barking and whining is Julie's way of alerting us to another animal!

OMG! How did I forget to blog this??

Behold the best Christmas Present EVER!!!!

Megan was out shopping on Christmas Eve and saw a "Free Kittens" sign. She said she got all excited and called Michael to see if it was okay to get one for me. Of course it was.

When Michael came in with Megan, she was holding this little fluff ball of cuteness. I almost started crying I was so shocked. Katherine has it on FaceBook, a bit to my chagrin. She says I shouldn't feel silly.

At first, I named it "Sophie," which was the name I would have given a puppy. But we learned that 80% of orange tabbies are male, so I have renamed him "Atticus" after the character in my favorite book, "To Kill a Mockingbird." If it does turn out to be a girl, we will call her Attie.

She/he is completely litter-box trained and soooo affectionate. At first, Julie wasn't so sure about her, but they get along fine now. More pictures to come, but I just heard Mike come in from shoveling snow. I have a Bolognese-ish sauce on the stove for dinner. (We had chili on New Year's Day.)
I say 'ish' because I didn't have red wine.

2018 Begins...

...with a bang.

Actually, it is January 5th and we are in the midst of a blizzard!

Poor Jamie had to work, but at least the store is close. Katherine's is much farther away and I was worried for her, even if she did take my SUV. But, happily, she took the day off.

Nick, however, was going on his January trip to Maryland this morning and that was a scary prospect. But they must have left very, very early because they were at the hotel before noon. I just have to check in with Michael to see how he and Megan are doing.

Other thoughts: January 2nd would have been my mother's 95th birthday. I hope she enjoyed it up in heaven.

I am having cataract surgery in February and have to do a pre-op with my regular doctor first, so I made that appointment. Stupid me, without realizing, I scheduled it  on my birthday. At least it is in the morning.
