Mike is 64

Katherine and Michael stopped by to have dinner with us for  Mike's 64th birthday. We had filet mignon, a mushroom dish I made in the crockpot, baked clams and tomatoes aioli-style. I think he really enjoyed it all.

We also had ice cream cake for dessert. Katherine brought the meat and ice cream cake, although Mike and I picked up more meat yesterday. I made the sides. It was a pleasant day, not too much fuss, which is just Mike's speed these days. He's still healing from his surgeries!

Mike's Hand Surgeries

This Thursday, Mike will have the second of two surgeries to alleviate pain from carpal tunnel syndrome. Right now he has stitches on his palm but can get by with just a big Bandaid rather than the ace wrap and gauze he had to use at first. He has been able to do just about anything despite the stitches.

The doctor said it was one of the worst cases she's ever seen and was surprised it took him this long to do something about it. He has a really high threshold for pain, I guess!

I was his ride home two weeks ago and will do the same Thursday. It's an easy drive, even if it is much farther than I'd usually go. Heaven knows he's chauffered me enough!

The doctor came out to speak to me after the surgery. She actually had to get a different 'knife' because the part she was cutting was so thick after so many years. This was caused mainly from heavy weight-lifting. The surgeon said when she made the cut, all the nerves underneath just 'sprang apart.' The first hand was the worst one so hopefully this Thursday's surgery will go very easily.

(It is now Thursday. All went well. I have been unable to download a picture so this has been in Drafts.)

Bridal Shower

My daughter's best friend, Theresa, is getting married in the Fall. Katherine is her maid of honor and took charge of the bridal shower. She did an amazing job, but was so stressed out by all the work (and cost) that she swears she'll never do it again. I think it was a rousing success and everyone really enjoyed it. Best thing is that Theresa's mother surprised Katherine by  paying for all the dinners! (We were at an Italian restaurant. I had Chicken Francese.)

Katherine with best friend Theresa.

Katherine made all the beautiful floral arrangements. There were also little succulent plants and cookies-in-a-jar prizes for everyone. We played games and prizes were won (but not by me, lol).

Atlantic City

Took another trip to A/C. We only stayed over one night, but had the room booked for 2 nights so we'd have the room all day to use.

John and Noreen were there, too, and Nor's brother, Tommy. We took a shuttle down the Boardwalk to try out a new casino, Resorts. We joined up and used a few machines. We mostly did this in order to build up points so that we can also go to Mohegan, which is in Connecticut. Mike's been there, but I haven't. I'd like to try it someday.

No big wins, but I did hit a mini jackpot for about $25, on a 40 cent bet. Not bad.

We enjoyed dinner at the buffet, but Mike said next time he doesn't want to eat a heavy lunch right before driving home. At least if you are there longer you can 'walk  it off' on the Boardwalk.

A/C's newest thing is this gigantic Ferris wheel. I am told it goes very slowly and it takes a long time to go around. Even though it is very large, the fact the 'cars' are enclosed makes me think I would brave it one day.

Not sure how tall it is, maybe two hundred feet? It might be something to do one day.

Mother's Day, 2018

Michael came over and made a nice dinner of shrimp and pasta. Megan went to her own mother's house (of course) but made a beautiful cake. The kids and Mike also gave me flowers, chocolate covered strawberries and candy. It's more than a week later and somehow I manage to still have some of my candy, lol!

The cake is chocolate. The icing is colored lavender with little pearly things around the edge. Very pretty!
Michael, busy making my Mother's Day dinner!
